Church History
A brief history of College Station Chinese Church

The College Station Chinese Church was established in 1976 and held her first Sunday Worship service on the second Sunday of October in the old First Baptist Church at Northgate (now a Methodist property). The Church was ministered by then Dallas Theological Seminary student Michael Shen (who later became the 5th principal of Singapore Bible College). Among the original Congregation, Sister Carol Chen, Brother Wing Wong, and Andrew and Sophia Chan are still living in College Station. The Church was named "College Station Chinese Chapel" in 1977 but changed to its current name in 1978.

For the next 10 years, the Church continue to meet in the First Baptist Church and moved with them in 1986 to their new church site at Welsh Street. During this decade, the Church was pastored by a number of DTS students who later became pastors, including Pastor Patrick Tang from 78 to 80, Pastor Peter Au from 81 to 82. In 1983, three DTS students, Bayer Lee, Roy Low and Johnny Jones took turn serving the Church, with Pastor Johnny Jones stayed until 1986. In 1987, with Pastor David Chan's help, Pastor Emmo Lin and his family came and served the Church.

During Pastor Lin's tenure from 1987 to 1990, the Church officially incorporated as non-profit 501(c)(3) organization in the State of Texas, revised the Church Constitution, and acquired the Second Baptist Church building at 708 Eisenhower St. The Church moved into the current church building on Nov. 20, 1988 and dedicated the building on Feb. 19, 1989. Pastor Lin was succeeded by Pastor Chin-Lee Chan from 1991-1992. After Pastor Chan's departure, the Church was without a pastor in 1993. The Church called Pastor Kyoo Won Seo to serve as the interim pastor in 1994 and Pastor Seo continued on as the full time pastor for the next seven years.

In 1995, a separate English service was started, meeting at 9:15 am Sunday morning. This service was sustained for five years, but recombined with the main service in 2001. After Pastor Seo left in March, 2001, Pastor Ben Hsiau, who was a Coworker of the Church during Pastor Johnny Jones' time, came back and helped the Church for three months. The Church was without a pastor from 2001 to 2004. In these four years, the pulpit ministry was sustained by pastors and elders from other churches, including Pastors Phillip Hsu, John Leung, Emmo Lin and Brother Timothy Chen (now also a pastor). Pastor Johnny Jones, who left in 1986 came back by God's providence, and served as the interim pastor from September 2003 to May 2004. In August 2004, Pastor Ben Hsiau answered the Church's call and arrived with his wife Judy to serve as the Church's full time pastor. They served more than three years until January, 2008. Once again, pastors and elders from from other churches help sustained our pulpit ministry in 2008 and we were grateful to have Pastor Simon Chan served as the interim Pastor from January to August, 2009.

Despite years of uncertainty in the pastorate, brothers and sisters remained faithful and committed to the future of our Church. After decades of planning, the two old side buildings were finally torn down in May, 2010 and the construction of a new family-fellowship building began in June, 2010. By God's grace, Pastor Steve Fang arrived on November 14 to serve as our pastor and in time to dedicate the new Family-Life Center on  November 28, 2010.
